I’m a mostly water-based organism living in a rather northern section of Illinois. I read as many comics as I can afford, as well as a healthy amount of classic literature and modern fantasy novels. I tend to pay too much attention to form and style, which most people don’t notice, I’ve noticed. If you think I should be reading something I’m not, you should certainly inform me of my ills.

Have you read any Alison Bechdel? She does the Dykes to Watch Out For series and she has a new graphic novel/memoir called Fun Home. Not your usual style, but I think you’d like it.
actually, I’ve heard of her and browsed through some of the DtWOF books in Borders, but I’ve never really sat down and seriously read her. I’ll have to check out the memoir. I can’t say I’ve seen that combination too many times.
I actually don’t think I have a style anymore. I’m still enjoying a small amount of superhero stuff, but only when applied correctly. I now have a better understanding that, when read and written properly, superheroes serve as a timeless metaphor for human sacrifice, greed, goodness and that lot, but it’s mostly done really poorly. Lately I’ve been much more interested in human relationships and personal kinds of stories, so that book sounds fun. Unfortunately, it seems that when I write about human interest stuff, or just generally non-superhero stories on here, they get the least amount of attention.
Not sure if you’re reading these, but here are a few recommendations…
I just picked up Kyle Baker’s Plastic Man which is amazing.
Also, the new Brave and the Bold is great and The Spirit by Darwyn Cooke is an incredibly fun read.
If you have not picked up the Albion trade by Alan Moore’s daughter Leah and her husband John Rippion, I recommend that as well.
